In a world profoundly shaped by technology, I Am Q offers a thought-provoking exploration of the human experience, delving into contemporary issues such as artificial intelligence, social networks, and corporate responsibility. This narrative urges readers to question how technological advancements impact our lives, relationships, and society at large.
The story is narrated through the lens of Sam Noble, a 39-year-old copywriter for commercial products and a part-time comedian. His life seems ordinary until he crosses paths with Q, a complex woman in her 20s grappling with acute bone-marrow disease. Q's influential parents propose a lucrative deal to Sam: teach Q about the human connection. Despite her savant-like ability to process new information, there is an undeniable void within her.
As Sam guides Q through these intimate lessons, he unwittingly embarks on a journey through ancient ruins of his own past – unraveling an engaging dialogue on the ever-evolving role of technology in our lives. From the era preceding the modem to the age of selfie sticks, Sam's teachings shed light on the subtle, yet impactful, progress of technology, compelling his astute pupil to scrutinize the relentless march of innovation.
However, Sam never imagined how far these lessons would take them — from discovering unknown truths about his own identity, to confronting greater forces of progress in acts of martyrdom.
Through pop-culture references and sharp-witted humor, I Am Q captures the essence of the Bridge Generation - individuals who straddle the divide between pre- and post-internet eras, bringing them together to discuss and reflect upon the evolution of technology.

David currently resides in Italy with his wife and two young daughters. I Am Q is his debut fiction.
“The impact technology has on our lives is a topic I’ve always wrestled with. As a writer, I choose to question. As a parent, I feel anxious. As a human-being, I am responsible.
For these reasons, I consider I Am Q the most important creative work that I have done in my professional career. And while it is a closed book, I can see no end in sight.”
